It is never pleasant to find that your first days on the job are the last days for the people who hired you. This may indeed be a bad sign, or it might not be much of a sign at all.
In this type of situation, it would have been preferable for both of the dearly departing individuals to let you know more about what is happening. Since they did not take this step, your next step is to meet with them.
Let them know that you are concerned about their departure, particularly in light of the positive comments that they made about the company when they were interviewing you. If they are willing to discuss the matter, you may learn that they are leaving because of significantly better offers elsewhere, or perhaps they are leaving for strictly personal reasons. In these types of scenarios, there is no indicator of serious problems in your company, and no reason for major concern on your part.
However, they may be leaving because of company problems which they are not willing to discuss with you. If you sense that there is more to their departure than meets the eye or ear, take a look around the rest of the organization. If it looks like a fire drill, you have your answer.
