Furniture Working Conditions Stereotyping

I just went for my third interview at this company, and I met with the president for a few minutes. I was surprised to find that his office is tiny and a dump. There were papers scattered all over the floor, and his desk was very small and messy. My conversation with him was pleasant enough, but I'm wondering about a president who works in such an unprofessional office. Is this a reasonable concern?

Just because the company president's office is a mess does not mean that the company is a mess. In fact, the way you described the president and his office could just as easily be signs of an excellent corporate leader.

This is not a leader who is putting on airs, putting up barriers, or trying to impress others with the fancy accoutrements that can be part of corporate leadership. He sounds like an approachable working president with a hands-on attitude. And importantly, you had a pleasant conversation with him.

If you want to know how effective he is, take a look at how the company is doing, and then look at the management team. If you see excellence in both of these areas, don't waste any more time looking at his office area. After all, there are plenty of corporate leaders who work in large and spectacular offices while leading their organizations into large and spectacular failures.
